“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

When I first became a Christian, releasing Halloween was difficult. I had come to associate the beauty of autumn with the darkness of the holiday. I loved it all— the colors, scares, movies, rituals, costumes, and traditions.

But my conviction, especially coming out of the occult, was to move away from a day that feels culturally claimed by the macabre.

I began to mourn the fall, feeling like my newness in Christ meant dying to my favorite season, but it didn’t take long for God to replace what I thought I wanted with something better.

I now have more space to focus on the gratitude and beauty of the season, without wasting time on consumerism and cheap scares.

By releasing the dark, I made more room for the light.

Here’s to my sisters and brothers in Christ who love the season as much as I do and celebrate it as one of God’s gifts to us. Pass the cider!
