A Note on Candle Safety
Candle Care & Safety
Every Word and Light candle is hand-poured to bring warmth and peace into your space. Please follow these guidelines so your candle burns safely and beautifully from first light to last.
Before You Light
- Trim the wick to ¼ inch before every burn. A short wick means a cleaner, safer flame with less soot.
- Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, vents, and anything flammable such as curtains, books, or décor.
- Remove any packaging, labels, or lids before lighting.
The First Burn
- Let your candle burn until the melted wax reaches the edges of the container, usually 2–3 hours. This prevents tunneling and helps your candle burn evenly for its whole life.
While It’s Burning
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time. Let it cool for at least 2 hours before relighting.
- Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, and debris.
- Do not move a candle while it’s lit or while the wax is liquid.
- If the flame flickers, smokes, or grows too tall, extinguish it, let it cool, trim the wick, and relight.
Putting It Out
- Use a snuffer or gently dip the wick into the wax and straighten it. Avoid blowing it out, which can splatter hot wax.
- Never use water to put out a candle.
When to Stop
- Stop burning when about ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom. Burning past this point can overheat the container and cause it to crack.
The Container
- The vessel will get hot during use. Let it cool fully before handling.
- Once finished, clean out the remaining wax and reuse your jar. We love seeing what you do with them!
A Note on Fragrance
Our candles are made with soy wax and cotton wicks. If you are pregnant, have allergies, or have pets with respiratory sensitivities, use fragrance in a well-ventilated space.
Word and Light Candles is not responsible for damage or injury resulting from improper use. Please burn responsibly.
