Let There Be Light! ✨ The First Burn: Setting Your Candle’s Foundation
Share
“In the beginning God said, ‘Let there be light’” (Genesis 1:3). Just as light was carefully spoken into existence, the way we light a candle for the first time matters. That first burn sets the foundation for the life of your candle.
To begin, allow the wax to melt evenly across the top, creating a full wax pool. This prevents tunneling and ensures your candle burns cleanly and fully each time. A good rule of thumb is to let the candle burn one hour for every inch of its diameter.
Before lighting, trim the wick to about ¼ inch. This helps control the flame, reduces soot, and extends the candle’s life. And always remember safety: never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from drafts, children, and pets.
A little care at the start makes all the difference—just as in life, how we begin shapes how brightly we shine.
